Product description

WERNER KLEMPERER and GILA GOLAN Signature from the actor inscribed to a fan, with a rare signature from the Polish model and actress on the verso Inscribed signature: "To Louise/Werner/Klemperer" "To Louis,/Best Wishes/Gila Golan", 5¾x4 album leaf with 1x1½ b/w photo affixed. WERNER KLEMPERER (1920-2000) suppressed his German accent to play the all-American character role as the timorous press agent in the 1957 film Kiss Them for Me (1957). The capture of fugitive Nazi official Adolph Eichmann in 1960 sparked a renewal of interest in war films, and soon Klemperer found himself playing Eichmann (whom he vaguely resembled) in the 1961 quickie Operation Eichmann. He also essayed a suitably slimy role as a former Nazi jurist on trial for war crimes in 1961's Judgment at Nuremberg. Try though he might to break free of the stereotype, Klemperer was stuck in Teutonic roles, so he resigned himself to recultivating his German accent and worked steadily throughout the '60s. A low-comedy variation of Klemperer's standard character made him an international TV favorite: the actor played the heel-clicking, imperious and incredibly stupid Colonel Klink on the popular sitcom Hogan's Heroes from 1965 through 1970. GILA GOLAN (b. 1940), formerly named Miriam Goldberg, is an actress and model hailing from Poland, adopted during World War II after being abandoned at a train station. Golan was first spotted for her beauty while attending school to become a teacher, appearing in the Israeli women's magazine Lalsha, and later was crowned Israel's Maiden of Beauty in the 1960 national Israel fashion competition. It was due to her winning of the competition that Golan originally changed her name to avoid work getting back to her religious benefactors. Golan also achieved second place in 1960's Miss World pageant, and soon after moved to the U.S., where she signed a contract with ... More information available.
